Every night, though I know it is a lie, a part of me hopes one last hope for a better tomorrow as consciousness fades from me, but each morning I wake, my eyes open to another dead reality and the weight of the world and all of my failures to exist harmoniously within it settles heavily on the shoulders of my soul and I drag myself to the starting line of another miserable day of mitigating my past and posting up against the hell my mind wants to create, all the while repeating the same tired mantras that have never rung true, trying to force the delusion that if I just keep trying, eventually life will get better as I repeat my endeavors to stave off the hopelessness and despair until my head again lies restlessly on my pillow, a loose stone pulled from the wall of my cell.
